Like the majority of our great nation, the State of Maine is filled with abandoned buildings.  Things change, people move.  An industry moves into an area, workers move to the area, the industry closes (or moves) and the people move.  It happens.

If you take a drive through the towns and cities of Maine, it probably won't take you very long to spot at least a few abandoned homes, buildings, and businesses.

One of these seemingly abandoned buildings is a small hotel that sits on Route 2 in a small Central Maine town.  We say "seemingly abandoned" because it is important to note that someone does own 99% of these properties, even if the property is not in use and has not really been maintained.

Which brings me to my next point...

One of my favorite people to follow on Youtube is a Maine taxi driver who also does a lot of exploring in Maine.

In the summer of 2022, he stumbled across this abandoned motel in Central Maine and decided to take a peek.  He found that the motel was also a small RV park, too.  He started by exploring the grounds where he found a pavilion-like structure and a small BBQ area.

Looking into some of the buildings, he found that most had been cleaned out, but that there were a few items left behind.  There were several old beds, tables, chairs, and a few ancient TVs.

There was also a small apartment, presumably for the owner / caretaker.  In the apartment, there were a few old appliances and even an old cash register!

One of the saddest things he found, which could indicate when the motel closed, was a memorial to Corporal Eugene Cole.
