Thomas Rhett will be stepping into new territory when he acts as a judge in the 2018 Miss America competition.

"That's going to be interesting," he admits to Taste of Country. The "Craving You" singer follows fellow country hitmakers Cole Swindell and Brett Eldredge in accepting the job — both previously served on the judging panel of the nationwide competition (in 2016 and 2015, respectively). Rhett will look to them for guidance — he doesn't have a specific plan of action in mind.

"Hopefully I can just read the question very good," he jokes. "I don't know how much judging is actually involved, but I get to read some questions and evaluate the answers."

5 Truths About Thomas Rhett's Life Changes Album

Rhett's new album, Life Changesdrops on Sept. 8, just days before he makes his way to the judges panel for the competition. The album pulls from his early experiences as a young father and achieving massive success with 2015's Tangled Up, which scored him numerous hits like Die a Happy Man" and “Crash and Burn." After adopting daughter Willa Gray from Uganda in May of 2017, Rhett and his wife Lauren welcomed their second daughter, Ada James, on Aug. 12.

“It’s kind of about my daughter and it’s kinda about a lot of things,” Rhett tells Taste of Country about the album. “Basically it goes from me being in college to me being here now and how drastically my life has changed in the last five or six years. And Willa being a huge part of that.”

Fans can catch Rhett in his judge's chair when the Miss America pageant airs on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 8PM ET on ABC.
