Numerous Schools in Maine Reportedly Received Email Threats
According to an article on the WABI website, schools in several states, including Maine, have reported getting threats via email.
The article explains that this information comes from a message sent to families by Yarmouth School Superintendent Andrew Dolloff.
In a message to families, Dolloff said the email claimed explosives had been planted in each school on the list. He explained that the list was old and included many wrong addresses.
One of the messages, which Dolloff called a hoax, targeted Yarmouth Elementary School.
He said he immediately contacted local law enforcement and shared the email with the Maine Information Analysis Center, a program under the Maine Department of Public Safety. Police determined the message was a copy of similar hoaxes sent in the past and confirmed there was no credible threat to any Maine school.
According to WMTW, because it is believed the emails were hoaxes, classes at schools that received the messages have gone on as usual.
The message reportedly said, in part:
As always, student and staff safety is our top priority. We know situations like this can be unsettling, and we encourage everyone to look out for each other and reach out to school leaders, myself included, with any concerns.
One source close to the investigation reportedly told WABI that the messages were duplicates of old hoax messages.
It is not clear which other schools in Maine received similar messages.
