The Western Avenue bridge in Waterville is closed for reconstruction. The bridge was closed at 6 a.m. this morning and the project is expected to last through the end of August.

The 68-year-old-bridge is in need of replacement and the Maine Department of Transportation is overseeing the project.

Traffic will be detoured from First Rangeway to Mayflower Hill, Pleasant Street and back to Western Avenue. Western Avenue and the bridge is used as a route between Elm Street and Kennedy Memorial Drive.

The project is expected to be done by August 27, 2015.
