Traffic Alert: Major Central Maine Bridge Work Will Require Detours on Thursday
UPDATE: July 29th @ 3 PM
Here is an update from the Mid-Maine Chamber:
The Maine Department of Transportation will be conducting maintenance paving on Carter Memorial Drive/Route 137 in Waterville on the morning of Thursday, July 31.
This project involves maintenance paving from Carter Memorial Bridge to the intersection of Kennedy Memorial Drive. This project is part of routine efforts to ensure road safety and improve driving conditions in the area.
Drivers traveling on this section of Route 137 should expect temporary delays during paving operations.
To minimize disruption and ensure the safety of both crews and drivers, traffic will be rerouted via West River Road and Abenaki Road.
Detour signs will be clearly posted, and flaggers will assist with directing traffic as needed.

If you have spent more than a few years in Maine, there is a good chance that you have noticed we suffer from traffic issues during the summer months.
In addition to the massive influx of tourist traffic, we have to deal with seemingly never ending road construction projects.
Over the last few years, at least here in Central Maine, we have seen this go into overdrive. Between the replacement of a section of the I-95 overpass in Augusta and the replacement of the Ticonic Bridge in Waterville/Winslow, there always seems to be something snaring traffic.
Now, we are getting word that another project will likely cause detours for a day this week.
Paving of the Carter Memorial Bridge
Since the replacement of the Ticonic Bridge began, the Carter Memorial Bridge has become a necessity for those who cross the Kennebec River on a daily basis.
If you normally cross the river via the Carter Memorial Bridge you are going to want to find an alternate route on Thursday.
A press release from the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce says that detours will be necessary as the bridge will be closed for paving most of the day.
The press release says, in part:
Detours will be necessary as the
Carter Memorial Bridge
will be closed for paving all day
on Thursday,
weather permitting.
Watch for signs and please plan your travel routes accordingly.
