Whitewater Park Proponents Release Economic Impact Study

Advocates of a proposed whitewater rafting park in Skowhegan say it could bring in millions of dollars of revenue to the Maine city.

A study indicates a park could bring in $6 million in revenue and create 40 jobs in its first year. The study says it could grow to $19 million and 136 jobs within 10 years.

The Run of River project in the Kennebec Gorge downtown would provide sport for kayakers, rafters and canoeists with man-made rapids and bumps.

The Board of Selectmen had questions earlier this year, and the study aims to answer them. The study says it could generate more than $300,000 in taxes.  —SKOWHEGAN, Maine (AP)
