In an extremely rare case, an 82 year old Columbian woman, suffering from stomach pains, was found to have a 40 year old fetus inside her. The condition is known as ‘lithopedion’, or stone baby. It’s when an unborn child develops outside the womb.

The woman was thought to be suffering from a simple stomach bug but scans revealed ‘lithopedion’, where the fetus becomes calcified. The condition happens when a fetus develops outside the uterus because it moved to another place.

The woman will undergo surgery to have the fetus removed.
