A car hit a cow on Route 17 in Readfield this Saturday night. A 2003 Ford sedan driven by William Ervin, 25, of Readfield was eastbound on Maine Street, Route 17, when the accident happened around 11 p.m.

Ervin and his two passengers reported no injuries. The car received severe front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene.

Unfortunately the cow died in the accident.

The cow was owned by Edward Munson on Winthrop, who has been taken to court previously by the town of Readfield over his cows wandering into the road.

Under a settlement in the most recent lawsuit, Munson had agreed to pay a $2,000 fine and $500 for the time the animal control officer spent gathering the cows.
