A car hit a cow on Route 17 in Readfield this Saturday night. A 2003 Ford sedan driven by William Ervin, 25, of Readfield was eastbound on Maine Street, Route 17, when the accident happened around 11 p.m.
Icy roads are causing several accidents on Maine roads this morning. Police have responded to rollover accidents on Interstate 95 in Waterville. Slick road conditions are being reported all over the state.
The snow is falling in Maine and the roads are quickly becoming slick. The Maine Turnpike Authority has reduced speed limits on the Maine Turnpike and Interstate 295 to 45 mph. There has also been a report of an accident on the Maine Turnpike this morning.
State transportation and wildlife officials are urging Maine motorists to be extra careful this time of year for deer on the roads. The deer population in Maine has rebounded to about 200,000, according to a state biologist. That's a nice recovery from when about a third of the Maine deer population died during the 2008-09 winter.
The snow has started flying with blizzard warnings posted for much of the state. An unexpected burst of snow started just in time for the Friday morning commute and it has led to a major car accident on I-295.
