The winter roller coaster ride in Maine will continue over the next few days.

After experiencing spring-like temperatures and rain on Wednesday, we're going to get hit with more nastiness tonight and tomorrow.

Even though this weather event will bring some freezing rain, sleet, and snow to Maine, the biggest concern is going to be from the gusty winds, which could cause power outages in some areas.

Rain, Ice, and Snow

According to WABI's Todd Simcox, we can expect the temperatures across Maine to nosedive after the sun sets on Wednesday.  Where we had temperatures in the lower 50s during the day, we'll see mid-teens overnight.

That also means that the rain we have been getting will change over to ice and freezing rain for most of the state.  Most of the state will get less than half an inch of freezing rain or ice.  Northern Maine could see a little bit of snow.  When it's all over, Aroostook County will see less than an inch of snow.

This weather will make the roads slick in a lot of places.  Please allow extra time to get where you are going.

Gusty Winds

The WABI forecast is also calling for wind speeds to increase this evening into tomorrow. Inland Maine could see gusts of up to 45 MPH.  On the coast, the gusts could be as high as 55 MPH.

The winds will make it feel a lot colder than it actually is.  For most of us, Thursday will start with temperatures in the teens, but the wind chill will make it feel more like 0 degrees.

Some of these gusts could cause damage and lead to power outages.

You should take reasonable precautions, like making sure that your devices are charged and bringing small items inside.

The weekend

This visit from winter won't last long, though.  Temperatures start rebounding on Friday and, by the weekend, we'll have temperatures in the upper 40s or lower 50s.
