The Augusta Armory was filled with several strong men and women as the Central Maine Strongman competition took place on Saturday. I was there for a few hours and saw a couple of the competitions. There was an overhead log press and something I'm calling the keg run.

The overhead log press, was an overhead press that contestants had to fully extend over their heads with their arms locked out. Each round, the highest rated contestants would go again with more weight added.

The next event I saw was the 'Keg Run'. It was a metal set-up, much like smith machine bar, that the strongmen and women rested across their shoulders and there were metal baskets hanging down on each side of them. They would run with this across their shoulders and pick-up two kegs and out them in the baskets and run back to the other end. Then they would put the final two kegs in and run back once more. This was tough. I asked one contestants how much he thought a fully loaded keg run weighed and he guessed around 400 pounds!

It seemed to me that there were more women than men competing and I heard from several people that this was the largest turnout of spectators that they can remember. I would guess that at least 350-400 people were there.
