The days of crying over cut onions may be over. In Japan they have developed a tear-free onion. The substance that is emitted from an onion that makes you cry has been isolated and removed.

The decision hasn’t been made on whether or not the tear-free onions will be sold commercially, but the House Food Group says they have found a way to break down certain enzymes that cause tears.

The same company won the Ig Nobel Prize in 2013 for discovering the process behind how onions make you cry; now they have discovered how to make onions ‘not’ make you cry.
