A Central Maine teenager has been charged and taken into custody following an incident which ended in him allegedly shooting his older brother Tuesday.

The Kennebec Journal reports that Tuesday's incident occurred at a residence located at 31 Pleasant Drive in the Maine town of Jay. The paper says that a 17-year-old boy, and his 20-year-old brother, got into some kind of a verbal altercation a little before 1 pm.

Following the verbal altercation, the KJ reports that the younger brother took a handgun out and proceeded to shoot the older sibling. Jay Police responded to the scene after receiving reports of the shooting.

After officials arrived on scene, the 17-year-old, who remains unidentified because he's a minor, was taken into custody while LifeFlight was called in to transport the older brother. The 20-year-old was transported to Central Maine Medical Center where, at last report, he was in stable condition.

Jay Police Chief, Richard Caton IV, told the Kennebec Journal that the 17-year-old boy was charged with aggravated assault, a Class B crime, and was subsequently taken to Long Creek Youth Development Center which is located in South Portland, Maine.
