2022 Maine Moose Lottery - Here's Everything You Need To Know

It's official! The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is now accepting applications online for the 2022 Maine moose hunt.

According to their website, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is open to accept online applications thru May 12th, 2022. Once the application process is close. The MDIFW will administer a chance drawing to select winners for a Maine Moose Hunting Permit in June 2022. Last year it was virtual, we are still waiting to see if that will be the case for 2022. No official word as of yet.

So, bottom line, if you are interested in hunting Maine moose, the largest big game animal in the state, this is the only way to get a permit. Unlike a deep hunting license, hunters must have one of the special Moose Hunting Permits to paticipate.

The cost to apply for the permit is $15 for Maine residents and will allow for one entry for a permit. As for nonresidents they have a different situation, they may put in for as many chances as they wish, with some discounts for more entries. Currently for nonresidents its $15 for one entry, $25 for three, $35 for six, $55 for 10 and $55.

Now at first glance, this may seem unfair to Maine residents who can only put in one entry but understand that Maine residents are preferred. And the selection rate weighs higher for a Maine resident who will be awarded about 90 percent of permits.
