A tragic accident occurred during Bangor's Independence Day celebration. An antique firetruck ran into an antique John Deere tractor and killed the driver of the tractor.

According to the Bangor Daily News police say, "a mechanical failure caused the truck to go out of control in front of a large crowd of parade-watchers and slam into the rear of the tractor as both turned onto a downhill stretch of Water Street at 12:40 p.m.."

The horrific accident happened on a parade route that had been changed because of a shooting incident earlier in the day. Perrin Oliver of Detroit, Michigan has been arrested after firing 70 or more rounds from a gun in a Park Street residence.
