It's almost time to celebrate Independence Day, aka the 4th of July, or the day for all things Red, White, and Blue!

The 4th of July is probably one of my favorite days of the year because it means getting out into the community and hanging out with family for the day. Between Parades, Barbeques, and fireworks, there is just so much fun to be had on the 4th of July.

As fun as those things are on their own, I love to take all the fun things in life to the "next level." I always tend to go all out for holidays in general, but I'd say the 4th of July is probably my favorite to dress up for.

This year Buzz and I will be attending Augusta's annual 4th of July Celebration, and I wanted to make sure we are fully decked out, so I made us matching tie-dye shirts. And, because I was hoping you could show up in your best Red, White, and Blue attire, I made a list of all the things you'll need to make your own tie-dye shirt!

DIY Tie-Dye Instructions

If you are looking for a fun, wearable, art project for the kids, try this throwback idea.

Supplies you will need

  • Rubber Bands
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Gloves
  • T-shirt or other Garment
  • Tie-Dye Kit or Ritz Dye
  • Paper Towels
  • Covered Work Surface
  • Scissors

Directions

  1. Pre-Wash T-Shirt
  2. Keep Shirt Damp (straight from the washer is best)
  3. Fold T-Shirt into the Pattern of your choice (I folded mine long ways, like an accordion)
  4. Place Rubber Bands (helps shirt hold its shape)
  5. Apply Dye (anywhere on the shirt you would like)
  6. Roll T-Shirt Over (without picking it up, trying not to blend colors)
  7. Apply Dye Again
  8. Wrap Shirt In Plastic Wrap
  9. Leave Shirt To Sit (for at least 6-8 hours)
  10. Remove Plastic Wrap
  11. Rinse Shirt By Hand
  12. Cut Rubber Bands Offs
  13. Unfold Shirt
  14. Wash In Washing Machine (large load, Hot water & only 1 Shirt at a time)
  15. Dry as the T-Shirt is directed
  16. Tie-DA, YOU'RE DONE!! ;)
