A Maine Grandmother Is Kayaking To Guatemala

Deb Walter, a 63-year-old grandmother, from the central Maine town of Troy is embarking on a journey of a lifetime.

She's making a 2,500 mile kayaking trip to Guatemala. Walters kicked off her journey this past Sunday from Portland.

The year-long solo expedition is to raise awareness and money for children in the Guatemala City Garbage Dump Community.

Walters says she was inspired to help when she visited Guatemala nine years ago.
