It all began last summer: the moment I received the opportunity to take care of my oral health.

I met with Dr. Randall Cutri at Capitol Dental Care on State Street in Augusta. He guided me with a plan on rectifying the problems with my teeth.

In short, the plan was to get all of my teeth extracted and then proceed with dentures. He referred me to Dr. Cynthia Winne at Facial & Oral Surgery Associates in Augusta.

The extractions took place this past October. I’ll admit that I was very nervous about the extractions, but it went a lot better than I had hoped for. Dr. Cutri was present during the extractions and immediately took the impressions for my dentures.

About a week later, my temporary top plate was ready. It took me a few days to get used to the dentures, but what a difference it made. My old speaking voice was back! That is so important with my line of work!

A few weeks later, Dr. Cutri introduced me to my bottom plate. I quickly got used to the bottom plate, and now I had my full set of dentures.

I would get many kind comments from people I see everyday at the gym and work. They will say things like, “It's great to see you smiling again!” or “Hey, Andy the teeth look great!” Now I get embarrassed due to the good things people are saying and not because of what my teeth look like.

I could feel my self-confidence build, and I even caught myself smiling at times. It was kind of funny; because I avoided smiling for so long when my teeth were bad, I looked funny trying to smile! It took a few days, but smiling is now second nature for me. I catch myself laughing more and not having to think if anyone can see my teeth. It might sound like a small thing, but, for me, it’s a freedom of not having to worry about what my teeth look like.

I also got used to eating with the dentures rather quickly! In fact, I just had my first BBQ of the season and had no problem with chicken and steak tips!

This past week, the final adjustments were made to my dentures and they fit me like a glove.

Dr. Cutri, Judie at the front desk, and the entire staff at Capitol Dental Care really do care about you and your oral health. I can’t thank them enough for changing my life in such a wonderful way.
