We always talk about what amazing first responders we have here in Maine.

This story is a reminder of that fact.

Recently, the Augusta Police Department posted on their Facebook page about how one of their officers came to the aid of a "stranded motorist" who was on his way to school.

Officer Doody, who is the school resource officer for several area schools, including Gilbert Elementary, spotted Thomas, a 3rd grader, while on his way to Gilbert.  Thomas was having some issues with his bike.

Unable to make the needed repairs on the street, Officer Doody gave Thomas a ride to school and then went to work trying to get his bike fixed.

The post goes on to explain:

SRO Doody took the bike to a repair shop, but repairs were going to cost more than the bike was worth. SRO Doody even entertained taking spare parts of damaged bikes collected at the PD to make the repairs, but nothing was working out.

In the end, an anonymous donor gave the Augusta Police Department enough money for them to purchase Thomas a new bike.

Lieutenant Cote and Detective Guay went shopping and found Thomas a new bike. They even delivered it to Thomas at school on Thursday.

The post says, in part:

Thomas could not have been more excited for his first "new" bike. Principal Dr Boursaw even let Thomas take a few test laps at school to make sure it was going to work to his liking!

This is another reminder of how Maine has some of the best law enforcement in the entire country.
