Special education teachers are truly remarkable individuals who bring patience, empathy, and dedication to the classroom each day.

They have the unique ability to see the potential in every student, regardless of the challenges they may face, and work tirelessly to create a supportive and inclusive environment where each child can thrive.

Sadly, Central Maine has lost a notable special ed educator.

The students and staff at Augusta's Cony Middle & High School are mourning the loss of a beloved ed tech.

According to an email to parents from Cony High School Principal Kim Liscomb, Special Education Ed Tech Jeff Padgett passed away over the weekend from an unexpected medical event.

The email goes on to say:

Mr. Padgett was a valued member of our school community, and this loss affects us all. We chose to share this news with students in their homeroom settings to ensure they received the information in a supportive environment with familiar teachers present.

Students were reportedly notified of his passing during their homeroom period on Monday.

The email also explains that the news of his passing could be difficult for some students to process and suggests that, if your child is having a difficult time processing his loss, parents can feel free to contact the school's guidance department.
