Augusta, Maine, Goodwill Store Evacuated Following Grenade Discovery
One of the great things about shopping at discount stores, like Goodwill, is that you never know what you are going to find on the shelves and racks of the store.
If you take a walk through a Goodwill you are likely to find gently-used shoes, vintage t-shirts, wool suit jackets from the 1960s, random cups & plates, and old electronics.
If you are surprised at what you find as a shopper, imagine what it must be like for the staffers who get to sort through the donations!
Sometimes, they end up stumbling across items they never expected to see, like hand grenades and mortar shells!
According to a press release from the Augusta Police Department, the Goodwill store in Augusta was evacuated for a time on Tuesday morning after what appeared to be a grenade and mortar shells were discovered in a donation.
The press release explained:
There were no threats communicated, nor any information to lead police to believe there was any ill intent by the person who dropped off the box. Goodwill staff met with the Augusta Police Officers and decided to evacuate the store. Maine State Police Bomb Team responded immediately and secured the items.
Once the bomb squad was done, the staff re-opened the store.
We're just glad no one was hurt!
