According to a press release from Maine Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, a 30 year old man from Augusta as been arrested for attempted arson.

Brian Dyer was arrested at about 8 PM Thursday (June 11th) on Hicks Road.

He has been charged with arson for setting fire to a fuel pump outside Augusta's MD's Market early on the morning of May 17th, 2020.

After purchasing a gasoline additive, lighter fluid, and a roll of paper towels, he attempted to light the fuel pump on fire.  Fortunately, the fire quickly went out and there was little damage.

Following his arrest, Dyer was taken to Kennebec County Jail in Augusta.

Investigators used pictures from the store's security camera system to ask for the public's help in identifying the man.  Several tips were received.  These tips aided law enforcement in their investigation.
