Augusta PD Releases Statement About George Floyd Murder

Like thousands of law enforcement agencies around the country, the members of the Augusta Police Department have made it clear how they feel about the slaying of George Floyd.

The statement, posted to the department's Facebook page, says:

"On behalf of the women and men of the Augusta Police Department we want you to know that the we stand together in denouncing the senseless killing of George Floyd. The actions of all who were involved in this tragic situations have left a massive scar on our profession that we work so very hard to hold at the highest standard. Every member at every level is accountable to you. We all hold each other accountable for our actions and we all believe there is no tolerance for these behaviors that should be punished to the fullest extent of the law."

The post also goes, in detail, into the APD hiring process.  It explains that each officer candidate goes through a polygraph test, psychological test, and complete background check.  This is all done in an effort to prevent the hiring of people who are predisposed to "senseless acts".  it also explains that officers are monitored throughout the course of their careers.
