Augusta Police Investigate Two Deaths As Murder-Suicide

UPDATE - Nov. 12 - 3 p.m.

State Police are investigating the murder-suicide deaths of a couple in Augusta as a domestic violence homicide.

According to the Maine State Police, Loryn McCollett, 30, was stabbed to death in her Augusta apartment at 93 Northern Ave. by her boyfriend Eric Ryan, 30, formerly of Clinton. Police added that after killing McCollett, Ryan shot himself as Augusta Police Officers knocked on the apartment door.

The state police said McCollett’s body was found in her bed, and Ryan’s body was found in a bathroom with a handgun at his side. According to police, the couple shared the Northern Avenue apartment with a friend.

Detectives continue to conduct interviews today while Evidence Response Team Members process the apartment for evidence.

Autopsies on the two bodies are taking place Tuesday at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta, police said.

According to a press release from the Maine State Police, one of the deceased was male, the other was female.

An autopsy and positive identification of the deceased is expected on Tuesday November 12th or Wednesday November 13th.

UPDATE (November 11th @ 9:30 PM)

The KJ is reporting that police performed a wellness check at 93 Northern Ave at about 1:30 PM on Monday.  About two hours after police arrived, radio traffic indicated that a shot had been fired.

When the landlord opened the door, police heard the sound of someone running inside the apartment, followed by a single gunshot.  Police entered the apartment at approximately 4:30 PM.  Just after 5 PM, a trio of paramedics entered the apartment, but left without any patients.

According to the KJ, law enforcement are investigating two deaths at a residence on Northern Avenue in Augusta.

On Monday (November 11) afternoon, police responded to a report of shots fired near Kendall Street.  When they entered the apartment at 93 Northern Avenue, they reportedly found one person dead.  Another body was found in a bedroom.  Police report there was a gun found near the first body and it appeared the second person had been dead for some time.

According to APD Chief Mills, the Maine State Police are helping with the investigation and he does not believe there is any danger to the public.
