There is something special about this time of year in Maine. The changing of the seasons from summer to fall, the best time of year in Maine. A tradition from generations is passed on, back to school shopping.Growing up in Lewiston, until I was 10 years old, I remember going back to school shopping with my Mom. Dad worked at his and his brother's restaurant and Mom didn't drive, so we would take the city bus to downtown Lewiston and walk up and down Lisbon Street.

We would hit all the stores, Peck's Department Store, Woolworth's Department Store (where we would get a treat at the soda fountain) Lamey Wellehan Shoes, then we would go to the Lewiston Mall and Promenade Mall. I also remember we would go to King's Department Store in Auburn, where Shaw's is on Center Street.

Even though it's been 30 years since I went to high school, I still find myself buying new clothes this time of year!

What back to school memories do you have?

Then when I was a teenager, the Auburn Mall opened, and that became the cool place to hang out.
