A Small Maine Town Will Soon Lose Its Only Real Restaurant
If you have ever lived in a really small town you know how important the local restaurant is to the community.
If you are lucky, like we were in Houlton, you may have had a few good sit-down restaurants. We had the diner at the local truck stop, we had Beal's (later, Joe's) Diner, and we had a few fast food places. So, yeah, we had a few options.
Unfortunately, it looks like one small, Aroostook County, town will soon lose it's only real restaurant.
According to an article on the Bangor Daily News website, Fort Fairfield's Boondock's Grille will close for good this December.
The article explains that a post on the Boondock's Grille Facebook page explains that the town's only dine-in restaurant will close at some point this December. In the post, Steve Adams, the restaurant's owner, announced that the closure is because he and his wife plan to retire. Adams says the staff will keep their jobs until the business closes, but that it will operate on a somewhat limited menu. However, he does plan to try his best to keep the most popular items on the menu.
The restaurant, which has been open since 2009, has been for sale since 2023.
If you have ever wanted to own a restaurant in Aroostook County, the place is for sale as a turn-key restaurant. The current list price is just under $400,000. It will remain on the market through the first part of 2026. If a buyer has not been found by then, Adams says the equipment and property will be auctioned off.
