Charges Reportedly Pending in Deadly Waterville, Maine Crash
We have an update on the deadly crash that took the lives of two Maine Department of Transportation workers and seriously injured a third worker.
According to an article on the WABI website, charges are pending against the driver in the crash.
The article explains that investigators say the driver of a Kia passenger van, identified as Samantha Tupper, failed to stop at a stop sign on the on-ramp in Waterville and did not yield while merging onto I-95.
According to the report, the van entered the travel lane and was struck on the driver’s side by a southbound tractor trailer that had the right of way. That impact pushed the van into an active work zone that investigators say was properly set up.
The van struck three MaineDOT workers. Two of them were killed after being thrown over the bridge railing onto Kennedy Memorial Drive below. Two other workers were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Investigators say both drivers consented to blood draws. Toxicology results were still pending at the time of the report. No charges have been filed yet. Any charging decision will be made by the District Attorney’s Office after reviewing the full investigation and toxicology results.
The report also notes the crash happened during clear weather, in daylight, with dry road conditions.
