For most of us, going out to eat has always been a treat.

When we were younger, it was something we did a few times a week because it was a social activity with our friends or with the special someone in our life.  Now that we are older, it is a fun way to treat the kids when they are good or there is something to celebrate.

Of course, like basically everything, the cost of going out to eat has really skyrocketed.

Recently, I took my two daughters to lunch at a casual chain restaurant and the bill was surprising.  Even though we never had drinks, appetizers, or dessert, the bill (with taxes and a decent tip) was just shy of $100!

Yeah, it seems crazy, but it was not all that shocking.  We've all grown accustomed to what a decent meal out costs.

The good news is that there are still some affordably priced places to eat in Maine.

In fact, Stacker recently put together a list of the highest rated cheap eats in the Bangor, Brewer, Orono area.
