Merieke Pentermand, of Holland’s Family Cheese, won the top prize with Marieke Mature Gouda. More than 1,700 cheeses were entered for the cheese championship with everything from Gouda, to pepper-flavored to smoked cheeses.

Wisconsin cheeses won the most gold medals, 47 of the 81 categories judged, New York and Vermont tied for second with 6 gold medals each. First runner-up was a semi-hard alpine cheese, Tarentaise, made in Reading, Pennsylvania.
