China & Palermo Transfer Station Fees Going Up

After a recommendation from the China Transfer Station Committee to raise fees, the selectmen of China have agreed and will begin an overhaul of some of the current transfer station fees which will also effect residents of Palermo by contract.

Although no one wants higher fees, the fee schedule of any transfer station has to at the very least cover cost of disposal, staffing, and be competitive enough that the transfer station isn't attracting disposable waste from other towns.

According to townline.org, the town of China transfer station has to allow at least six months notice of any fee changes.

The main items that will be effected with this fee increase is in regards to Demolition debris disposal fees, that will be rising from six cents a pound to ten cents a pound for both China & Palermo beginning on April 1, 2022. For all other towns the increase for demolition debris will go up from eight cents a pound to fifteen cents a pound beginning on Jan 1, 2022.

Although it has been decided to increase the price of bags for mixed waste for Palermo residents, the exact cost of the increase has yet to be announced.

One other item up for discussion is charges for disposal of bulky items like furniture and mattresses, no decision have been made as of yet.
