This Maine Police Department’s Facebook Page is a “Must-Follow” Account
Back in the 20-teens and early 2020s, the Facebook page for the Bangor Police Department was getting national attention for the very funny statuses it was posting.
In most cases, these lengthy posts were providing important inforation to the public, but in a humorous way. These posts often made reference to the "Duck of Justice" which was a stuffed duck at the police station.
It was later revealed that these posts were written by the department's public information offices, Lieutenant Tim Cotton. While he retired in the summer of 2022, he reportedly continues to manage the department's social media on a part time basis.
Now, it looks like a new Maine police department has stepped up to become the state's "must-follow" social media account.
The Clinton Police Department Facebook Page
In recent months, the team at the Clinton Police Department has made some epic and hilarious Facebook posts. They've made posts about people who are smoking something other than vape juice from their vapes, jokes about not using 911 to ask who Bad Bunny is, and posts poking fun at the nasty comments that some people leave on the Clint PD Facebook page.
The department's latest post is about avoiding fights on social media.
The new post makes reference to the "SOB" program. That's the Scroll-On-By program. Basically, instead of stopping to engage with people, the idea is that you keep scrolling.
The post says, in part:
Ever feel the need to argue with a stranger about politics at 2 a.m.? SOB.Want to tell us how you would have done it differently even though you were not there? SOB.Feel like diagnosing the town with your PhD in Facebook Law? You guessed it SOB.Want to correct someone’s grammar while misspelling three words in your own comment? SOB.Thinking about telling us that making jokes means we are not doing real police work? Scroll On By.Saw a meme you did not like but shared five last week that were worse? SOB.Got offended on behalf of someone who is not even in the post? SOB.See a Clinton PD post that you swear is unprofessional because it made you laugh but you incorrectly think its wasting your tax dollars? Scroll.On.By.Twice.
Honestly, I think this is a great idea and I am glad that the members of the Clinton PD suggested it.
In addition to the jokes, the page also occasionally provides non-humorous advice that we all need. For example, following the killing of Charlie Kirk, the page posted commentary (a warning) about how uncensored videos of the tragedy were circulating online and that there was a chance our children could stumbled across these videos.
