Maine State Police Arrest Alabama Woman Following I-95 Pursuit
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, a woman from Alabama was arrested following a brief pursuit down the I-95 near Auburn.
Just before 5:40 pm, the Augusta Regional Communications Center started getting flooded with calls about a red SUV flying down I-95 near Auburn, weaving through traffic at high speeds. Troopers tried to track it down but couldn’t find it at first.
A short time later, a Trooper spotted the vehicle near mile marker 83 in Lewiston and tried to pull it over. That didn’t work. The driver kept going.
Spike strips were then set up near mile marker 68 in New Gloucester. They did their job. The SUV’s tires started to go flat, and the vehicle finally came to a stop just before the southbound toll plaza.
Troopers conducted what’s called a high-risk stop, which brought all southbound traffic to a full halt for a time.
The driver was identified as 51-year-old Carla Williams of Homewood, Alabama. She was taken into custody and charged with Driving to Endanger and Failing to Stop for a Law Enforcement Officer.
Police say she was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
