Augusta Photographer Dave Dostie Captures Amazing Harvest Moon

If you're not familiar with local photographer, Dave Dostie, you really should be. Not only is he just an all-around wicked nice guy, he's also an insanely amazing photographer. Have you ever looked at photographed images and thought to yourself, 'there's no way these are even real photos!'? Well, that's how we feel sometimes looking at the images Dave captures around our beautiful city.

The last couple of days you've probably noticed that the moon looks a little bigger, a little brighter, and a whole lot closer to Earth than it normally does, right? That's because it was the harvest moon. According to Britannica,

Harvest moon, the full moon nearest the autumnal equinox (about September 23). Near the time of the autumnal equinox, the angle of the moon's orbit relative to the Earth's horizon is at its minimum, causing the full moon to rise above the horizon much faster than usual.

Why is it called the 'harvest moon'? Well, it's actually self-explanatory.. the harvest moon provided farmers with extra light to work on harvesting their crops even after nightfall. And while modern technology allows farmers to work at night even without the bright glow of the moon, it's still a really cool peek into its history.
