Maine Man Arrested For Threatening to Burn Vehicle With Dog Inside
According to an article on the WCSH 6 website, a 45-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning after Bangor police say he poured gasoline on a vehicle and threatened to set it on fire while a dog was inside.
The article explains that, according to the Bangor Police Department, at approximately 3:55 AM, a woman and her dog ran into the lobby of the police station, telling officers they were being chased by a man.
As officers entered the lobby, they encountered the suspect, identified as 45-year-old David Vieira, who police described as transient. Officer Emily Konopka intercepted Vieira and ordered him to leave the lobby while officers separated the two individuals.
During the investigation, police learned that the woman and Vieira had been living together in a vehicle. The woman told officers that Vieira had poured gasoline over the vehicle and threatened to ignite it while her dog was still inside.
Police said the woman was able to remove the dog and flee before Vieira could carry out the threat.
Investigators later located the vehicle and found a gas can as well as evidence that gasoline had been poured over it. Officers also reported finding a lighter in Vieira's possession.
Vieira was arrested and charged with domestic violence criminal threatening, a Class D crime. He was transported to the Penobscot County Jail.
*NOTE - All suspects are considered innocent until being found guilty in a court of law
Police said no injuries were reported.
