Do You Support A Restaurant Surcharge Instead Of Tipping?

Cara Stadler, the owner of restaurants in Portland and Brunswick, is eliminating tipping at her restaurants on December 1st and will be adding a charge of 18 percent on her customers pre-tax bill.

She'll increase the pay of her restaurants' staff. Starting pay for servers will be $15 to $16 per hour, $16 to $17 for bartenders and starting pay for cooks will go to $12 to $13 an hour.
