According to the KJ, Skowhegan's Eaton Mountain ski and tubing area will not open this winter.

Owner David Beers made the announcement on the mountain's Facebook page, saying the decision was brought on by “several personal and business-related challenges”.

One of those being the increase in the state's minimum wage.  Maine's minimum wage increased to $11 per hour on January 1st of this year, and it will increase to $12 per hour on January 1st of 2020.

According to Beers, the mountain sees about 150 guests on a nice winter day.  He plans to open attractions during the other seasons.
