Fire At Sidney Apartment Building Displaces 20 People
According to the KJ, a Friday evening fire at an apartment building in Sidney has displaced nearly two dozen residents.
The fire, which happened at an apartment building on Dinsmore Road in Sidney, destroyed two apartments and caused smoke damage to the other eight apartments in the building.
It appears the fire, which started just before 6 PM on Friday, started in an electrical meter box located outside the three story building. The fire reportedly worked its way along the wires and got into the walls of the apartment building.
No one was injured in the fire and most, if not all, of the pets in the building were rescued.
One of the apartments destroyed was in the basement of the building. The other destroyed apartment was spread across the first and second floors.
Fortunately, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from getting into the attic. According to officials, if the fire had made it to the attic the building would have been a complete loss.
About 30 firefighters from Sidney, Oakland, Belgrade, Rome, Smithfield, Waterville and Augusta took part in battling the blaze.
