According to an article on the WMTW website, a Harpswell woman is facing multiple charges after authorities say she twice fled from law enforcement before crashing into a pickup truck.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, 48-year-old Karen Pennell was arrested Monday on an active warrant and charged with driving to endanger, failure to stop for law enforcement and violating conditions of release.

Deputies said they stopped a vehicle driven by Pennell on Harpswell Island Road near Gurnet Landing Road at approximately 12:20 PM.

Pennell was wanted on an execution of stay warrant out of Cumberland County.

Authorities said Pennell initially stopped and spoke with deputies but fled after being ordered out of the vehicle.  During the incident, she allegedly nearly struck a deputy with her car. Deputies attempted to locate the vehicle but were initially unsuccessful.

Sheriff's deputies and Brunswick police officers continued searching the area.  About an hour later, they found Pennell's vehicle pulled over on Merritt House Road.

According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies attempted to box in the car, but Pennell managed to get around them and flee again.

Shortly afterward, authorities said Pennell failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Merritt House Road and Harpswell Island Road.  Her vehicle then crashed into a Chevrolet pickup truck.

The pickup's driver, a 56-year-old Harpswell man, suffered minor injuries. Pennell was not injured in the crash, according to authorities.

*NOTE - All suspects are considered innocent until being found guilty in a court of law

After her arrest, Pennell was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland for medical evaluation.  She was later transported to the Cumberland County Jail after being medically cleared at the hospital.
