Maine's Blue Ribbon Classic, the Fryeburg Fair, is truly iconic.

Some would say that, if you looked up 'fair' in the dictionary, there would be a picture of the Fryeburg Fair's welcoming gates under the entry.

According to the fair's website, the organization that operates the fair was incorporated in June of 1851.  For the first few decades, the fair welcomed entries from nine Maine towns.  In 1888, six nearby New Hampshire towns were added to the fair.

Over the decades, the fair has grown immensely.  The fairgrounds now cover 200 acres and there are about 100 buildings on the fairgrounds.  Each year, the fair welcomes about 300,000 guests.

Traditionally, the fair, which ends over Columbus Day (Indigenous Peoples' Day) weekend, marks the end of the fair season in Maine.

A Big Change For the 2025 Fryeburg Fair

The fair normally begins on a Sunday (generally, it is the last Sunday of September).  This year will be a bit different, though.

It has been announced that we'll get an extra day of the Fryeburg Fair this year.

Instead of taking place from Sunday, September 28th through Sunday October 5th, this year's fair will begin on Saturday, September 27th.

This means you'll have an extra day to enjoy all that the fair has to offer.  If you know much about the Fryeburg Fair, you know that it will take you more than one day to see and do everything.

The Fryeburg Fair is not the first to make a similar change.  Last year, the Windsor Fair, the state's second largest fair, made a similar schedule change.
