In the last decade, we have seen a big change when it comes to young adult nightlife.  While the change has been nationwide, we have really felt it here in New England.  Young adults are no longer content with going to a bar or nightclub to have a few drinks while they dance to music played by a band or DJ.  They want to participate in some kind of activity.

That is one of the big reasons we have seen bowling make a big comeback.  If you visit a bowling alley these days, you won't just see pudgy middle-aged men and you'll see large crowds of 20-somethings and 30-somethings.

Another young adult activity that we have seen popping up everywhere in the last few years has been axe throwing and hatchet throwing.  We seen them open in the Portland area, Lewiston / Auburn, and Bangor.  But, we've never had one in Augusta...  Until now!

The Hatchet House is a new hatchet throwing center at the Marketplace at Augusta.

Once open, the Hatchet House will feature ten hatchet throwing lanes.  Eight of the lanes are in the main area and two are tucked away in a semi-private spot.  They plan to serve beer, cider, and wine.  So, you and your friends can come in, have a beer, and toss some hatchets.

In addition to hatchets, customers will also have the option of throwing throwing stars.  It's your chance to live out your fantasy of being a ninja!

The owners, Mary and Mike, explained that one of the things that separates their business apart from other axe and hatchet places is the variety of computerized games they offer.  Instead of just tossing a hatchet at a target, guests will be able to play games.  These range from games where you kill zombies, to adaptable bullseyes, to seasonal games.

They plan to be open Thursdays through Sundays.

At this point, they hope to be open by the end of April or beginning of May.  They are currently looking to hire a few employees to help them run the operation.
