Here’s When People in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, & New York Can Visit National Parks for Free
Our National Parks are one of the greatest things our country has to offer.
National Parks are essential because they protect and preserve the natural beauty, plants, animals, and cultural heritage of the United States. These parks give people of all backgrounds a chance to experience the majesty that is America.
These parks provide educational opportunities, promote mental and physical well-being through outdoor activities, and are a reminder of the importance of conservation. By safeguarding these landscapes for future generations, National Parks ensure that the unique and irreplaceable treasures of our natural world remain protected for all to enjoy.
Normally, you need to pay a nominal fee in order to explore and experience the beauty of Acadia and other National Parks. However, there are several days each year when the parks are accessible admission-free.
According to the National Park Service, the free days in 2025 are:
- January 20th - Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- April 19th
- June 19th - Juneteenth
- August 4th - The Birthday of the U.S. Coast Guard
- September 27th - Public Lands Day
- November 11th - Veterans Day
On the above days, your family can get into any of the over four dozen National Parks spread across the United States and U.S. Territories. This includes Maine's Acadia National Park.
Acadia National Park is one of the things that sets Maine apart from the rest of New England. Despite having many amazing state parks, no other New England state is home to a national park.
Other notable national parks include Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio, Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee, Crater Lake National Park in Oregon, and Glacier National Park in Montana.
