According to WGME, a truck driver made a miraculous escape early Wednesday morning escape from his burning rig.

The truck caught fire while it was parked at the northbound service plaza on the Maine Turnpike in Kennebunk Wednesday morning.

Fire crews responded to the scene and found the tractor-trailer’s sleeper cab fully engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading into the refrigerated trailer. Officials said the trailer was carrying food at the time of the fire.

Authorities say the driver had been sleeping inside the cab when he woke up and noticed smoke. He was able to get out safely before the fire intensified.

No firefighters were injured while battling the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The service plaza was shut down for about an hour as crews worked to contain the fire. The section of the plaza designated for tractor-trailers remains closed while officials remove the damaged vehicle.
