Since moving to Central Maine in 2016, I have been hearing rumors about how Augusta's Governor Hill Mansion is haunted.  Sometimes, the people telling me about the hauntings were second (or third) hand, but other times, they were from people who had literally heard or seen something.

Until recently, however, I had never been inside the historic building.  Earlier this summer, I had the opportunity to DJ a wedding at the venue.  My 11 year old daughter tagged along to help.  Well, I thought she was coming along to help.  I found out later that the whole reason she was there was because she had heard the place might be haunted and wanted to see a ghost.

Built as a residence for John F. Hill, the 45th governor of the State of Maine, construction was started in 1901.  Governor Hill had the mansion built to be used as an executive mansion because the Blaine House was not yet being used for that purpose, yet.  According to Wikipedia, it was designed by John Calvin Stevens, a prominent New England architect at the time.

Over the course of its history, in addition to being a residence for Governor Hill, the mansion has been used as a residence, used to hide Japanese during World War 2, and used as a retreat for the Catholic Church.  Currently, it is privately owned and used as an event space.  It has been on the National Register Of Historic Places since 1977.

Some of the paranormal activity allegedly witnessed within the house includes full body apparitions, disembodied vocals, physical contact with spirits, and repeated sightings of a ghost known as "The Man In Black".

In 2012, Maine Ghost Hunters /  ZeroLux Paranormal did an investigation at the Mansion.  Like most modern day ghost hunters and paranormal investigators they brought thousands of dollars in toys and gadgets with them.  They had cameras, infrared cameras, EMF detectors, audio recorders, and more.

Check out the following videos to see how their investigation went.
