Mainer’s Pictures of Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse In South Portland Getting Hammered by Latest Storm

Bug Light Park is closed due to the damage.

It's amazing to see the power of Mother Nature, except when she keeps taking it out on Maine's coast. This latest storm of winds and rain was met with Portland's highest tide ever! The combination caused flooding that the coast was just recovering from, thanks to the last storm just a few days ago. And don't forget the storm last month, a week before Christmas.

Spring Point Ledge, a lighthouse in South Portland, has had a walking path to see the lighthouse and a cute little park to soak up some sun.  Not anymore. Mike Emery from Lewiston, who I have nicknamed Crazy Bastard, loves storms and snapped some photos of the park and lighthouse getting pounded.

WMTW reported that because of the damage from Saturday's storm, Bug Light Park will be closed until at least Tuesday after "major damage" was done to the Greenbelt path leading to the lighthouse.

Mike was able to get to the park before city officials closed it. The road leading to the park is now blocked.

South Portland is just one of many coastal communities that saw remarkable damage, with their iconic fish shacks on Willard Beach being ripped apart and pulled into the ocean. According to WGME13, many of the shacks...

...have been lost to vandalism or storms over the years, but only five remained before the storm of 1978. According to the Press Herald, these last three were just repaired and repainted for preservation efforts in October 2023.

These storms have been gut-wrenching for the damage done. But one Lewiston resident had a great time documenting one part of the craziness.
