Over 200 athletes competed for the United States, with all of them looking to score gold on the global stage.

With the games concluded on Sunday, February 22, a total of 10 New Englanders on Team USA earned medals.

Who Was the First New Englander to Win a Medal in the 2026 Winter Olympics?

Ben Ogden of Vermont not only was the first New Englander to medal in the 2026 Olympics games, but according to CBS News, he also made history by breaking a 50-year drought, becoming the first American man to medal in cross-country skiing since 1976.

Sevendaysvt.com reported that Ogden finished just 0.87 seconds behind Johannes Klaebo in the men’s cross-country sprint classic.

How Many New Engladers Have Won Medals in the 2026 Winter Olympics?

In addition to Ogden's first silver place finish, the cross-country skier won another silver in the team sprint a few days later. Three other New Englanders have earned silver medals as well, followed by six athletes on the women's and men's ice hockey teams who won gold.

By the end of the 2026 Winter Olympics, Team USA scored 33 medals, which put them in second behind Norway. Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut represented for the local medals won, and there were six gold medals for New England.

In total, 30 athletes had New England listed as a hometown per the Team USA roster.
