Country fans may find it hard to believe that there's anyone, anywhere, who doesn't know Luke Bryan's name. However, the country superstar says that his judging gig on American Idol has introduced him to a whole new audience.

"There's a segment of the world that doesn't even listen to the radio, they just watch TV," Bryan recently commented to The Boot and other media outlets. "They just learned who I am."

The country star first announced in 2017 that he had plans to join the judging lineup for the televised singing competition's reboot on ABC. As the season progressed, the show became the backdrop for several major moments for Bryan, from a surprise Mother's Day visit from his mom to a duet performance, with finalist Gabby Barrett, of his single "Most People Are Good."

"When I hop in a cab somewhere and the cab driver is like, 'I know your voice, you're a judge on American Idol' -- It's just a whole other segment of people," Bryan goes on to say about his broadening fame following his role on the show. Idol means much more to him than the added recognition, though: "I truly enjoyed every aspect of it: the learning curve, working with Lionel [Richie] and Katy [Perry]," he adds.

However, for Bryan, the most important part of being an Idol judge is his role as a mentor for up-and-coming singers.

"I think the people at home can tell that we really are in there for the good of these kids, and to get them going," he continues. "We don't just roll in and punch our two hours. We truly care about what happens to them. Any chance we have to help them, we will."

ABC's reboot of American Idol has been renewed for a second season. There is no word yet on when Season 2 will begin.
