At the beginning of April in Biddeford at Saco River Auction some very impressive memorabilia was sold from late New York T.V. talk show host Joe Franklin. To think these items were right here in Maine for sale is too cool.

Some of the items sold:

Walt Disney’s Mickey Mouse Ears (Walt Disney’s personal ears)

A cowboy hat, boots and spurs that belonged to John Wayne

Babe Ruth’s baseball glove sold for $118,000. (The top item sold)

A catcher’s mask and catcher’s mitt that belonged to Hall of Famer Roy Campanella sold for $42,000.

A harmonica that belonged to Janis Joplin went for $33,000.

A leather cowboy hat from Jimi Hendrix got $22,000.

The entire Joe Franklin auction pulled in $500,000.

Franklin, who died last year at age 88, received many of the items from celebrity guests who appeared on his show. But he also was an avid collector who bought and traded items.
