A bill introduced by Democrat state representative Paulette Beaudion from Biddeford would require all operators and passengers of motorcycles to wear protective helmets. The bill has been sent to the Transportation Committee. Rep. Beaudion introduced a similar bill in 2009 that was rejected.

Current Maine law requires motorcyclists under the age of 18 to wear a helmet when operating a motorcycle and also as a passenger. The bill sent to the Transportation Committee, if passed, would restore the law that was repealed in the late 1970's.
