Maine Brush Fire May Cause Issues For Those Traveling the I-95

If you typically drive the I-95 through Southern Maine, you need to be aware that a brush fire may affect your travel this afternoon.

According to an article on the WMTW website, the Maine Trunpike Authority is warning drivers about a fire that is burning near the northbound side of the highway in Cumberland, Maine.

Specifically, the fire is near Mile Marker 58.

According to the United States Drought Monitor, the area is not under drought conditions, but Cumberland, and surrounding towns, are experiencing extremely dry conditions.

As Maine is one of the most forested states in the country, it should be no surprise that we have more than our fair share of brush fires each year. According to the State of Maine, there are over 600 brush fires in Maine each year.

More than 79% of Maine homes are in the Wildland Urban Interface. This means that, in theory, they could fall victim to a brush or forest fire. The location of these homes often presents those battling forest fires with unique challenges.
