Gas prices in Maine went up about one-half of one cent this week, for a statewide average of $2.19 per gallon. That's according to the price-monitoring website GasBuddy.com. Maine's slightly higher gas prices went against the rest of the country.

Nationally gas prices dropped three cents per gallon for an average of $2.03.

Michigan has the nation's lowest average gas prices with an average of $1.79 per gallon.

Twenty-two states have an average of under $2 per gallon.

New Hampshire has the lowest gas prices in New England, with an average of $2.07 per gallon. Only Connecticut has a higher average gas price in New England with gas at $2.24 per gallon.

The lowest gas price that I found was in Cooley Springs, South Carolina at $1.25 per gallon!
